General Information
Just 5 km from Assisi, in a wonderful location on the hill, among majestic trees, olive groves and vineyards, surrounded by the peaceful Umbrian countryside and in a central position as regards the main tourist and culture heritage towns of the region, the holiday house "La Pergola" is ideal for those who wish for a wellness break for body and spirit.
The house overlooks a park with swimming pool and other free-time facilities, as alfresco dining and barbecuing courtyards, children’s playground; it has a big private parking area and is accessible to disabled people. Small pets are allowed. “La Pergola” has a reception hall at its guests’ disposal in the common area with a fireplace, armchairs for relaxing, reading area, satellite TV and a shared laundry room.
La Pergola offers to its guests the opportunity to participate in guided tours, nature trails, seminars and short courses concerning body and mind wellness, creativity and, during certain times of the year, some traditional farm activities, and also to undergo massages and wellness treatments.
La Pergola originated from the transformation of the family house of B. and B. Elisei; the house where they raised their children, grown up with the oaks, olives, hollies and the other trees that protect and mark the boundary of the property. Only the old pergola, under which grandfather Giovanni used to rest after his work in the vineyard, couldn’t withstand the wear and tear of time, but the name chosen for the new activity maintains the memory of our grandfathers’ old habit of looking after the grapevines and guiding their growth in order to get a good wine that does you good and puts you in a good mood.
La Pergola is today a holiday house that offers its guests, in addition to all modern comforts, the authentic atmosphere of a real home where every corner keeps memory of the past, and it’s ready to welcome everybody who wants to come and stay with the warm and delicate hospitality of Umbrian people.
The big terrace overlooking the valley below – where stands the dome of S.Maria degli Angeli, containing the humble church wanted by brother Francis – is the ideal place for resting, reading, lying still with body and mind in the shadow of the trees, on the wooden benches placed on the flowery meadow sown with daisies and clover, while children can play not far, in the little playground where also the owners’ children enjoyed themselves, with no other noise than their voices and laughs.
For the most active ones and when heat increases the need for coolness, the beautiful swimming pool on the left side of the main building, in a secluded place, surrounded by cypresses, pines and laurels, gives you the relief of invigorating and light-hearted baths. The outdoor shower completes the chance of having real moments of relax in full nature.
The restoration of the property, that allowed for the Umbrian housing types in the choice of materials and in the formal aspects, enabled us to arrange access and use possibilities also for disabled guests that can enjoy in the best possible way our services and facilities.
A delicate but effective lighting makes it easy to come to La Pergola also after sunset, walking or driving without difficulties a few hundred meters from the nearest town, a little built-up area developed around an ancient castle that was built to defend the territory during one of the numerous Middle Age wars between communes. Cultural events and village fairs call up its history and are an occasion for fun and appetizing gourmet experiences
The 4 flats of La Pergola - of different measurements - were built in full respect of the formal and typological elements of the Umbrian tradition; they are all well-lit, panoramic, tastefully furnished and with all the comforts (cooking area with fridge, independent central heating, air conditioning, colour TV and internal telephone). Two of them are two-roomed and provided to accommodate disabled people. Each flat is named after a flower of our countryside (Malva: mallow; Menta: mint; Ginestra: broom; Narciso: narcissus), whose colours live in the walls with a beneficial peaceful effect.
The 4 flats, of which 2 in the main building and 2 independent, are all very airy and tastefully furnished.
Each flat has the name of a flower of our region and relates to ancient traditions
Narcissus (Narcissus poeticus)
According to tradition this flower bloomed on the shores of a pond where the young Narcissus fell while trying to follow his own image reflected in the water, bewitched by his beauty. This is the reason why in the language of flowers the narcissus relates to self-esteem but also warns against the risks of an excessive vanity.
The two-roomed flat of about 35 m² is composed of a living room with cooking area and a bedroom for 2 (+1) persons and a bathroom with shower. It has an independent entrance and is structured and furnished to receive disable guests as well. It is provided with independent heating, TV, internal telephone. It overlooks a large piece of land with olives and other fruit trees and a vineyard
Broom (Spartium Junceum)
Sweet-smelling broom / Patient in the wastelands... (G.Leopardi)
Always prized for its delicate sweet smell and the sparkling golden flowers that announce springtime, the broom is a pioneer plant that can settle even extremely parched lands. This is why in the language of flowers it is identified as modesty but also as perseverance.

Mallow (Malva sylvestris)
Largely widespread in our uncultivated meadows, it’s always been known for its numerous therapeutic properties; this is why it is called “omnimorbia” (which means "against all illnesses") and the middle-age tradition considers it the symbol of motherly love that soothes pain with patience and dedication. In the language of flowers mallow relates to calmness.
The flat of about 45 m² is composed of a living room with cooking area and two bedrooms with 4(+1) beds, a bathroom with shower and a big terrace with a panoramic view. It is provided with independent heating, air conditioning, TV and internal telephone. Independent entrance.
Mint (Mentha)
Greek mythology tells that Pluto once met a nymph of wondrous beauty, Mintha, while walking outside of Hades, and fell in love with her. Persephone -his wife-, transformed her, out of jealousy, into a plant, mint, that symbolizes in the language of flowers the chill of fear and the ardour of love at the same time.
This is the biggest of our flats, of about 60 m², and can accommodate 4 (+4) persons in a roomy living room, 2 bedrooms (1 with double bed), a little kitchen, a comfortable bathroom with shower/tub. Adjoining the living room is a big terrace. It is provided with independent heating, air conditioning, TV and internal telephone; it’s very well-lit and has a panoramic view. Independent entrance.

Location Description
Assisi is inseparably linked to St. Francis who was born here in 1182 and is one of the major figures of Christianity and not only that. Many monuments and works of art are dedicated to the “Poor man of Assisi” and attract a large number of pilgrims and tourists from all over the world.
But besides the attentions due to the traditionally important and fascinating monuments (the Basilica of St.Francis, the Cathedral of St.Rufino, St.Claire, St.Peter, St.Damian, the Temple of Minerva, the Hermitage of the Carceri) Assisi is also worth a walk through the streets of the historic centre. In every season, with the wind roaring in winter, with the flower balconies, in bloom from the first days of spring until late summer, among the alleys of Assisi you can find the untouched medieval surroundings, the façades from the fourteenth-fifteenth century made of mount Subasio rose red stone, the short staircases, the little balconies and from time to time a view of the green valley below.
